Employment Specialist CalWORKs (Inglewood Adult Services)

This position is partially remote, and you have the option to elect into a 9/80 flex work schedule. The pay range for this role is between $22.13 - $23.36 per hour.

Summary

  • Developing a working relationship with community businesses; identifying potential job placements for clients with mental health disabilities participating in Agency employment services program, CalWORKs.
  • Representing and promoting the employment needs of clients to the business community.
  • Maintaining the fidelity of the CalWORKs Supported Employment model based on the Individual Placement and Support (IPS), Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) model.

Primary Duties

  • Carries out all phases of employment service, including intake, engagement, assessment, job placement, & job coaching
  • Develops career profile and plan for each assigned program participant including job search skills, resume preparation, interviewing methods, potential accommodations, and job retention.
  • Considers client’s social support network, multi-cultural and socio-economic factors, mental health symptoms, and reported barriers to employment when curating individualized job targets.
  • Promotes rapid job search and linkage via face-to-face contact by client or employment specialist to competitive work through multiple strategies within 30 days after program entry.
  • Helps the team think about employment for people who haven’t yet been referred to supported employment services, and provides consultations to clients interested in learning more about supported employment.
  • Coordinates and communicates with other health care professionals and support systems as needed to aid the placement of clients in employment and/or employment-focused activities.
  • Participates in case reviews and goal planning; keeps program staff informed of client performance (pre and post placement) and support needs.
  • Offers assistance and/or linkage (often to GAIN Social Worker) in obtaining comprehensive, individualized work incentives planning before starting a new job, and when making decisions about changes in work hours and pay.
  • Maintains accurate, complete documentation of services provided to clients, ensures compliance with Didi Hirsch policies and procedures, and prepares a variety of reports/measurable outcomes (including frequency and types of employer contacts), and success stories on employment services for program, division, Agency, and DMH.
  • Develops and maintains professional skills through seminars, workshops, or other forms of training/education.
  • Attends and participates in routinely scheduled program, division, Agency, and DMH staff meetings.

Position Requirements

  • Have a working knowledge of the community job market, and job placement of individuals with a history of mental illness.
  • Working knowledge of characteristics, symptoms and etiology of mental illness, vocational rehabilitation and supported employment techniques, business operations and employer concerns, interviewing methods, job search skills and case management.
  • Working ability to establish rapport with clients receiving mental health services, employers, DMH liaisons, DPSS/GAIN workers, DOR, and the general community.
  • Demonstrate current knowledge of all job specific skills including working effectively with individuals having a history of mental illness; case management; marketing and sales; crisis intervention; documentation; multi-cultural and socio-economic issues.
  • Possess demonstrated advocacy skills.
  • Present ideas, information, and viewpoints clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Efficiently use the personal computer to include a variety of word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Utilize analysis, experience, and judgment to make effective decisions.
  • Adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrate commitment to team objectives and Didi Hirsch philosophies; support the values and mission of Didi Hirsch as related to employment.
  • Know and comply with Agency policies and procedures; HIPAA, Department of Mental Health, Department of Rehabilitation, licensing policies and documentation guidelines; and other state/ federal regulations.
  • Current California driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier.
