JOB TITLE:

Resident Camp Counselor

COMPENSATION:

$275 - $305 per week ($2,475 - $2,745 for a 9 week season)

The YMCA Camp Ocoee is seeking Camp Counselors for Summer 2023! As an employer, we seek to instill our five core values of caring, respect, responsibility, honesty and faith in young professionals. We do this through on-the-job training and continual coaching in an environment that encourages personal growth and emotional intelligence. Being reliable and able to build good relationships with children are two essential traits of a Camp Counselor.

Staff must be available for the duration of summer camp, May 29th through July 28th. The job duties of a Camp Counselor include planning summer camp games, educating children and teenagers, setting up equipment, and so much more! Must be able to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings, primarily in outdoors elements, such as summer heat and sunlight, and aquatic environments. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Uphold the five (5) core values at camp: Caring, Respect, Responsibility, Honesty and Faith.
• Plan outdoor activities or sports for groups of campers.
• Create weekly or daily schedules, taking into account children’s age groups and interests.
• Escort and oversee children.
• Educate campers through games and explorations.
• Address behavioral issues.
• Ensure all safety rules are followed.
• Perform first aid or take care of injuries as needed.
• Keep accurate incident logs.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings.
• Other duties as assigned.
  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
• At least 17 years of age with a HSD/GED.
• Proven experience working with children as a Camp Counselor or similar role preferred.
• Familiarity with camping and various outdoor activities.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Leadership, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
• A good understanding of risk management and safety in the workplace.
• Positive, energetic, reliable, self-motivated, and patient attitude.
• In order to work, staff must also complete First Aid, CPR, AED, and O2 training before Camp begins on June 4th. Please note these training programs are provided by the Organization.
  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (strength and stamina to follow strenuous activities like hiking, running, crouching or carrying children).

Walking, stooping, standing, hearing, seeing, lifting (could be up to 50 pounds).

TRAINING: ( Please note these training programs are provided by the Organization)

• Certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED and O2.
• Y Camp training required before camp sessions, including online safety courses.
