The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) seeks to hire a Radio and Television Operator (Level 3) to work within the Executive Division’s Office of Special Events at the Office of Special Events/City Hall Sound Unit. The qualified candidate will be responsible for all aspects of Live Sound audio support for Mayoral and City sponsored events throughout the five boroughs.
Responsibilities for the Radio and Television Operator include but may not be limited to:
- Recruiting, hiring, and training City employees.
- Managing 55 public buildings.
- Acquiring, selling, and leasing City property.
- Purchasing over $1 billion in goods and services for City agencies.
- Overseeing the greenest municipal vehicle fleet in the country.
- Leading the City's efforts to reduce carbon emissions from government operations.

- Set up audio equipment and mix Live sound that requires amplification for Public Address systems for various hearings and ceremonies held at City Hall and throughout the five boroughs of NYC for the Mayor's Office, City Council, and other city agencies.
- Perform audio mixing tasks with special attention to audio levels operating at optimal levels for press and news media to record public events.
- Transport and lift heavy audio equipment and setting up public address systems in all types of weather conditions.
- Perform basic maintenance of audio equipment in City Hall and audio vehicles.
Minimum Qual Requirements
Qualification Requirements
Six months of full-time satisfactory experience as a radio operator, broadcast technician, repairperson or mechanic in the field of radio, television or two-way communications or broadcast trainee in a broadcasting station or performing closely related work.
License Requirement
A Motor Vehicle license valid in the State of New York may be required for some assignments. This license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.
Special Note:
To be assigned to Assignment Level III the candidate must have, in addition to the requirements listed above, three years of satisfactory full-time experience as a broadcast technician (radio and/or television) which may include experience as a broadcast trainee in a broadcasting station.

Preferred Skills
- Three years’ experience as an A1 Audio Engineer mixing Live Sound.
- Advanced Audio theory knowledge is preferred.
Additional Information
- Six months of full-time satisfactory experience as a Live Sound audio mixing engineer in a Live Sound environment with experience setting up and operating public address systems, analog and digital mixing consoles.
- Knowledge of setting up Public Address systems and mixing on analog/digital mixing consoles for Live Sound outdoor and indoor events.
- Knowledge of audio theory, audio industry standards, and audio equipment.
- Knowledge of maintaining audio equipment to keep it in proper working order.
- Ability to troubleshoot audio problems quickly and efficiently.
- Ability to perform under pressure situations.
- Ability to follow instructions and directions on setting up audio equipment.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Knowledge of basic internet streaming skills and PC / Mac office skills.

However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
