Job Summary

Responsible for the shipping and receiving of materials, parts, and products that originate or terminate at the Company’s loading dock. Responsible for the documentation of goods received or shipped in order to keep an accurate accounting of the Company’s inventory levels. Responsible for coordinating the shipping of products to customers/work centers in a manner that provides on-time delivery.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential)*

Assists in supervising employees on the loading dock, stores location, and shipping office.

  • Oversees the checking, packing, crating, banding, labeling, and weighing of orders for shipment.*
  • Oversees orders received to check for quantity, type, size, part identification, and quality.*
  • Assists supervisor in coordinating with Manufacturing personnel, Purchasing, Production control and Quality Assurance to make sure finished products are shipped in a timely manner.
  • Processes, maintains, and updates records to reflect inventory received/shipped to assure an up-to-date accounting of the Company’s inventory levels. Reviews inventory transaction reports for accuracy and completeness.*
  • Assists with cycle counts. Checks, verifies, and makes necessary changes in inventory reporting. Checks edit lists on cycle counts, inventory adjustments, audit reports, and record to recap sheets.
  • Uses print out item master to physically identify parts to provide necessary information to production control and other departments.*
  • Audits Longview’s galvanizing manifest with physical material in house and verifies accuracy.*
  • Works closely with Material Handlers and Production Control Dispatchers in resolving inventory discrepancies.*
  • Monitors dispatch list for all locations and POV.*
  • Assists supervisor in coordinating inspection and QA activities; communicates with QA regarding scrap material, RGA’s, etc.
  • Insures employees are performing their jobs in a safe manner. Participates in monthly safety meetings and assists supervisor in conducting monthly safety inspections. Identifies hazards as appropriate and refers them to the appropriate personnel for corrections.*
  • Assists supervisor in administering labor agreement in the supervision of bargaining unit personnel.
  • Maintains conformance with company policies, work rules and regulations, issues warnings on violations, and administers approved disciplinary measures when necessary.*
  • Researches shipping/receiving/inventory discrepancies. Coordinates resolution with Purchasing, Production control, Accounting, and/or Manufacturing personnel.*
  • Assists various plant personnel with inventory questions. Assists personnel with problems in their area arising from transactions and cycle counts.*
  • When assigned, participates in and/or coordinates Company programs (i.e. Manager/Supervisor Trainee program, job training, vacations, schedules, employee appraisals, wage administration, etc.). Provides input for promotions, transfers, demotions, and dismissals.*
  • Perform duties of Shipping/Receiving/Inventory Control Clerk.*
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Willingness to work flexible hours and extra time on an as-needed basis, involving extra hours during the week, Saturdays, and occasionally Sundays

Job Specifications (Work Experience, Skills, Abilities, etc.)*

*
Minimum 2 years’ experience in Inventory Control, Shipping/Receiving and Warehousing.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing terminology and protocol
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with supervisors, sales personnel, customer service personnel, and department managers
  • Computer literate with general knowledge of software related to materials management
  • PC experience and training required, such that the Basic level of skill can be demonstrated in Microsoft Word and the Intermediate level of skill in Microsoft Excel can be demonstrated
  • Proficient in mathematics and statistics related to business applications
  • Ability to successfully deal with large degree of detailed written information and instructions

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions: *

Daily exposure to shop conditions, which are variable depending on the task assigned. Is subject to shop noise. Involves standing and walking, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs. Skin and eyes may be subject to drying and irritating fumes, vapors and solutions controlled to OSHA standards. Works both in and out of doors, normally indoors, with sometimes dusty or confining work areas when in the shop/lab.
