General Counsel, Associate

Job Summary
Under direction of the General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer, this position shall be primarily responsible for assisting General Counsel with a variety of in-house legal responsibilities, including management of complex litigation matters, sales agent investigations, employment matters, and commercial and corporate transactions. This position will also be responsible for identifying and implementing processes and programs designed to enhance the effectiveness of, and resulting efficiencies concerning, NAB’s privacy functions. The Associate General Counsel will be responsible for playing a strategic role in the Legal department.
What you'll do:
- Provide hands-on, business-oriented and practical legal advice (which includes business process mapping and enhancements) and partner with all company divisions and functions to drive and meet objectives.
- Partner with Human Resources and outside counsel on employment related matters, including to help integrate NAB’s culture with a robust company-wide compliance culture.
- Co -manage the Legal ticketing system hosted by JIRA and ensure that business requests are made and timely responses are provided primarily through the ticketing system.
- Create, execute and negotiate complex contracts and professional services agreements to include vendor contracts, financing, strategic partnership agreements and non-disclosure agreements and corporate governance activities.
- Review and approve joint marketing materials, and marketing and communications that are subject to conduct policies’ requirements.
- Lead or support additional legal as needed. Plan, direct, supervise, and coordinate work activities of the corporate counsel.
- Develop and review policies and procedures for business functions.
- Serve on committees and assist in the formulation and implementation of policies and practices.
What we need from you:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience practicing in a law firm or in-house corporate environment in banking or the financial services industry.
- General familiarity with consumer financial services laws as well as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, etc.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem solving abilities with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interface effectively with executive management as well as employees at all levels of the organization.
- Strong contract review, negotiation, analytical, and creative skills.
- Strong ability to multi-task, prioritize and complete numerous projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a direct team and others across the organization to achieve shared objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to tackle difficult issues with optimism and confidence.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google software applications.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to create a positive and motivating working environment.
- Proven ability to be persistent in accomplishing objectives despite obstacles and setbacks.
- Must possess the highest professional and personal standards, unquestioned integrity and business ethics.
