Assistant Golf Course Superintendent- Brandon Golf Course

The Brandon Golf Course is currently hiring for an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, performs skilled and supervisory work to care for and maintain the Brandon Municipal Golf Course, including the golf course, surrounding grounds, club house, maintenance buildings, and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operations and Maintenance Activities
  • Assists with maintaining golf course, surrounding grounds and landscaping, club house, maintenance buildings, restrooms, parking lots, sidewalks, equipment and tools to assure they are in prime condition
  • Assist with placement changes of holes and flags, as well as any other course changes
  • Assure that customers are dealt with in a courteous, professional and respectful manner at all times
  • Supervise and/or mix and apply fertilizers, chemicals, top dressing and insecticides
  • Assist with coordinating maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and tools
  • Assist with tracking and maintaining equipment and supplies; order as needed, and within budget
  • Participate in the operation and repair of power mowers, trucks, tractors and other course equipment
  • Perform duties of Superintendent during his/her absence
  • Supervision and Leadership
  • Assist Golf Course Superintendent with training and scheduling of maintenance staff
  • Supervise daily work of maintenance staff
  • Work with other staff members; review performance and results; provide feedback
  • Assist with educating staff regarding proper procedures of ground care, equipment operation and maintenance, and safety procedures related to all phases of ground-keeping
  • Make staffing recommendations as needed
  • Maintain harmony among staff; resolve any grievances as they arise

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform other duties, projects and tasks that may be assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent and/or Golf Course Manager

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Work full-time when course is open, plus sufficient time before and after the season to assure successful operations, work on call or as required during the winter months
  • Salary is paid on an hourly basis + compensation time

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Willingness to obtain, currently working on or already having obtained a degree in turf grass management is preferred.
  • Previous experience in the care of grounds, equipment and facilities required
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of chemicals, including safe handling and storage
  • Mechanical knowledge and aptitude working with irrigation, pumps, golf carts, other equipment
  • Knowledge of safety procedures related to fertilizers, chemicals, equipment and tools
  • Give direction and support to staff members
  • Communicate as needed with customers and general public
  • Organize, plan and implement work activities

3. Physical Capabilities:

  • Position requires almost constant outdoor activities, with exposure ranging from direct sunlight to wet and humid conditions; position also requires exposure to fertilizers and chemicals
  • Physical activities include walking the course, carrying supplies and equipment, operating equipment, working with tools, standing, sitting, digging, reaching, carrying, etc.
  • Strenuous physical activity will be required in several aspects of position, including the ability to climb, stand, dig, kneel, stoop, lift and move up to 100 pounds
  • Operate mechanical equipment used in the normal course of grounds keeping
  • Operate normal office equipment: PC/telephone
