Assistant Cruise Director Job at American Queen Steamboat Operating Co

The Assistant Cruise Director supports the Cruise Director with managing and supervising the Entertainment team. Similar to the Cruise Director, the Assistant Cruise Director is consistently visible to the passengers onboard. This position dedicates a large amount of time to socialization with the guests and participation in shipboard activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create, edit, and ensure distribution of the River Times
- Assist in the dockside/hotel check-in process
- Participate in greeting and welcoming of our guests in on-board embarkation
- Perform in all on-board production shows
- Cleanliness and upkeep of all entertainment areas.
- Host onboard activities
- Perform at any/all entertainment venues as scheduled (this includes providing sheet music and scheduling rehearsal with the accompanist)
- Greet guests in the lobby after each production show
- Greet guests before each non-production show
- A minimum of 5 hours a week mingling/socializing in addition to scheduled activities
- Participate in vocal and choreography rehearsals.
- In charge of generating and printing the River Times
- Assist the Cruise Director in any way they may need
- In charge of all pictures in the lobby marquee
- Enter information into the World Drive
- Make hospitality standards an important part of day-to-day duties
- Actively participates in embarking duties such as loading, unloading, luggage carrying, etc., as needed
- Participate and ensure participation of all USCG mandated drills and emergency procedures as directed
- Performs other duties if required since above stated describe only a regular working day and may not be inclusive of every task needed to achieve results.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- HS Diploma or Equivalent Required
- Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
Professional Certification(s) or License:
- Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) – if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain
- Valid Driver’s License
- Copy of DD214, if Veteran status
Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a pleasant and professional manner
- Must maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance always
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
- Ability to train and supervise employees
- Logically and independently plan, organize, and complete work assignments
Experience:
- Five to seven years of experience in a position with similar duties and responsibilities
- Cruise industry experience preferred
Physical:
- Must submit to and pass mandated USCG physical
- Ability to meet and maintain the maximum onboard bunk bed capacity of 300 lbs.
- Ability to conduct work in a marine environment that is subject to some/all the following: confined spaces, uneven surfaces, variations in temperature, wake, and motion
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders
Other:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have valid driver's license
- Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident/incident testing.
- This position pays $225/day worked
- Additional requirements may be required depending on the physical needs of the role
