The Westchester County Attorney’s Office is searching for attorneys to handle legal issues relating to the operation of County government in the following Bureaus:

Litigation Bureau

An Assistant County Attorney to act as trial counsel representing the County, its officers and employees in state and federal courts on matters involving personal injury claims and property damage, allegations of deprivation of civil rights, breaches of County contracts and claims involving environmental issues, handle all motion practice, pre-trial discovery, preparation of witnesses, negotiation of settlements and conduct trials. Also responsible for conducting hearings and administrative proceedings pursuant to New York State Civil Service law, employment discrimination claims before the New York State Division of Human Rights and representing the County in proceedings pursuant to Article 78 of the New York State Civil Practice Law and Rules.

The successful candidate must have graduated from a school of law with an LLB or JD degree and be admitted to the New York State Bar. 2-4 years of experience is required and litigation experience is preferred including preparation of dispositive motions, conducting discovery and some trial experience.

Appeals, Opinions and Legislation Bureau

An Assistant County Attorney to handle all civil appellate work including Freedom of Information Law appeals on behalf of the County including drafting or responding to motions; researching and drafting Briefs and participating in oral argument before the state and federal appellate courts; draft legislation for enactment by the County or New York State; draft County-wide policies in compliance with New York State or Federal law; assist in implementation of new legislation and County policies; attend meetings with senior County officials and County Legislators regarding legislation; conduct extensive legal research and draft formal opinions on a variety of topics related to pending litigation, County government and municipal law.

The successful candidate must have graduated from a school of law with an LLB or JD degree and be admitted to the New York State Bar. 5 years of experience including Appellate experience is required.
