Aquarist II Job at Georgia Aquarium, Inc.
Position Summary:
The Aquarist II will work with a diverse team of aquarists at Georgia Aquarium’s off-site animal care and quarantine facility. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, be team oriented, motivated, and proficient in all aspects of animal care, water quality, and life support systems.
Responsibilities:
- Performs daily system checks and behavioral observations.
- Implements the highest quality care for the collection which includes fresh water and marine fishes, invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians, and elasmobranchs.
- Assists team with the culturing of algae, live foods, marine and freshwater fishes, and jellyfish.
- Works with nutrition team to implement, prepare and feed optimal diets.
- Participates in animal training and enrichment.
- Interprets water chemistries and maintain parameters for aquatic systems.
- Provides daily maintenance for various small and large systems.
- Assists veterinary staff with medical procedures and quarantine treatments.
- Participates with small and large animal transports.
- Interacts on behalf of Georgia Aquarium with guests, media, and general public.
- Follows safety guidelines for all aspects of operation including dive safety protocols.
- Fosters working relationships with other departments and institutions.
- Performs other duties as workload necessitates.
Qualifications:
- Preferred, four-year degree in biology or related field.
- Three years of work experience in an AZA accredited institution, or equivalent, working with aquatic animals and life support systems.
- Certified SCUBA Diver.
- Georgia driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products.
- Preferred, knowledge of TRACKS animal management software.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. An employee must also have the ability to travel by car, boat and air as needed, physically use SCUBA equipment, conduct field work in the collection and research of animals, and maintain daily contact with a living collection of plants and animals.
