Job Purpose: You are a focused and communicative team member. You provide care, feeding, and handling of animals.

Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours), 8 hour shifts

Location: Golden Valley, MN (May occasionally be asked to work at our Coon Rapids or Woodbury locations)

Candidate availability is a consideration in hiring. Candidates will be asked questions about availability and desired hours worked per week in the application process.

Days required to work: Must be available to work Saturdays or Sundays (ability to work both Saturday and Sunday is desired)

Saturday and Sunday shift times

  • 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM
  • 9:45 AM - 6:15 PM

Monday – Friday shift times

  • 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
  • 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM
  • 11:30 AM - 8:00 PM
  • Shift times are subject to change based on the needs of the organization

Pay: $16.00/hr

What you will be doing:

Animal Care — Perform daily cleaning of animal areas and feeding of animals in accordance with established procedures. Monitor appetite, hydration, stools, and vomit of all shelter animals.

Communication — Listen, pay attention, and be a responsible steward of information.

Support — Assist with animal restraint for transportation, medical procedures, and euthanasia as required. Move animals throughout the shelter as needed. Provide animal enrichment and complete fecal/urine collection when needed. Complete accurate data entry into the computer system.

Culture — Foster an open and inclusive work environment by modeling AHS’s behaviors and values, consistent with the vision and mission of the organization. Champion a culture of safety and promote meaningful volunteer engagement.

What we are looking for:

Schedule — Regular, predictable attendance, punctuality, and availability to work during operational hours as defined by leadership with the expectation to work varied hours including evening and weekend shifts.

Experience — Customer service experience preferred.

Computer Skills — Proficient with computers, specifically, a working knowledge of Microsoft products.

Adaptability — Ability to work in a professional and positive manner with high attention to detail in a variety of situations and the willingness to assist at other sites.

Communication — Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, must have ability to work as a team member and partner collaboratively with external and internal customers and departments.

Physical Capabilities — Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must have a high level of resiliency.
