Norton Education Group is partnering with a school in Beverly, Massachusetts in their search of an American Sign Language Teaching Assistant.

7:45 - 3:15
Pay Rate:
$23-30/HR based on experience.
Job Summary: Under direct supervision of the classroom teacher. Assists with curriculum development, student supervision, and teaching of children in a classroom setting. Assists in presenting and reinforcing learning concepts across all environments; effectively assists with classroom and behavior management in a proactive manner. Additional responsibilities include implementation of student programming, data collection, and upkeep of the physical environment, ensuring students’ rights, and adherence to school policy.
Responsibilities:
- Will adhere to the appropriate lines of communication according to the organizational structure for all staff issues.
- Will check/respond to email daily for communication.
- Will attend/participate in meetings with supervisors and related service providers.
- Will complete the instructional lessons developed by the teacher that address the students’ IEP goals as well as the MA Curriculum Frameworks.
- Will familiarize oneself with each student’s educational goals as outlined in his/her clinical book.
- Will assist the classroom with summing/preparing all current data in a timely manner upon request from the classroom teacher.
- Will assist the teacher with the collection of baseline data/assessments and help with the preparation of all necessary materials (including curriculum, stimuli, and data sheets) to conduct baseline information for any upcoming meetings.
- Will implement daily lesson plans according to the schedule set by the classroom teacher.
- Encourages opportunities for student participation, including techniques that prompt question asking and brainstorming to generate acquisition of related content areas.
- Implements lesson plans and teaching programs utilizing the curriculum frameworks, with individualized content, materials, sequence, and instructional techniques at each student’s level.
- If students’ needs are not understood, the Teaching Assistant will address the questions with the classroom teacher in order to gain a better understanding.
- Uses audio/visual material, technology, and adaptive tools in a comprehensive delivery of instruction.
- Implements individualized management/behavioral intervention plans (BIP/MIP) as written for each student designed to address individual student behavioral/management issues as instructed by the classroom teacher/ and other related service providers.
- Will assist the classroom teacher with all work necessary to complete MCAS and MCAS Alternative portfolios.
- Will assist the classroom teacher with summarizing/preparing all current data for student progress reports by the date the reports are due.
- Will adhere to the classroom schedule as written/instructed by the classroom teacher.
- Will provide instruction in the classroom, including groups and 1:1
- Will assist the teacher with completing communication notes according to protocol.
- Will communicate classroom-specific issues to the classroom teacher as needed.
- Will attend and participate in meetings as scheduled by the classroom teacher, administrator, or related service provider.
- Will maintain neatness of the work site.
- Will ensure the classroom is clean, including tables, desks, carpet.
- Will assist the teacher with ensuring all materials are organized and stored in specified locations.
- Will ensure all food items are appropriately stored.
- Will notify the classroom if supplies and materials for students need to be replenished.
- Assist the students’ technology and support needs, including: hearing aids, auditory equipment, physical needs, behavioral systems, sensory diets, and communication devices (all therapies/therapists).
- Positive and purposeful relationships with students, parents, colleagues, support personnel, and immediate supervisor in facilitating ‘team’ approach toward the accomplishment of common instructional goals and overall communication.
- Assisting students with all aspects of daily living skills (this includes toileting and changing diapers).
- Participates in ongoing professional development both inside and outside of the school setting in order to stay abreast of current educational trends. e. Participates in the accomplishment of institutional goals/objectives and overall mission by engagement in committees, task forces, or work groups.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by faculty/staff/administrators.
Qualifications:
- The minimum requirement is to have earned a high school diploma with 1-3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Preferred qualifications is a bachelor's Degree with 1 to 3 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Coursework in education, deaf education, special education, communication disorders, AT, or early-childhood preferred.
- Previous successful classroom experience, special needs or deaf education setting.
- Proficient skills with the English language (and sign skills for BSD program).
- Ability to communicate in a highly effective manner, including ASL (for BSD program).
- Ability to understand, follow and deliver safety policy and procedures.
- Ability to provide direct staff supervision, leadership, and role modeling for all classroom personnel.
- Ability to provide supportive, creative and active learning for all children that encourages growth.
- Ability to receive professional direction, learn new skills, and work in a team setting.
- Knowledge of behavioral management, special needs, and communication technology issues.
