General Position Description
The Lake Nona Education Ambassador is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of strategies to foster collaboration within the Lake Nona educational ecosystem and encourage engagement by local business and industry partners. Serving as a catalyst for innovation and partnership, the Ambassador will lead STEAM education-related efforts for the Scientist-in-Residence Program, Student Research Symposium, Common Themed Grade-Level Experiences and Experiential Learning Experiences.

Description of Job Function
1. Developing relationships with leaders at participating K-12 schools, Valencia, and UCF to create a collaborative educational ecosystem to serve the greater Lake Nona community.

Description of Job Function
2. Developing relationships with business and industry partners in the Lake Nona community to identify potential scientists-in-residence, research mentors, or experiential learning opportunities for students.

3. Creating the design of the scientist-in-residence program while recruiting STEAM professionals to serve as mentors for student researchers.

4. Serving as liaison between participating local schools and identified scientists-in-residence.

5. Recruiting professionals to serve as mentors for students and student researchers.

6. Developing the framework for the Student Research Symposium while organizing the logistics of the symposium.

7. Coordinating the development of the Tavistock or Lake Nona Prize for student research, including qualifications and award scoring rubric.

8. Coordinating the development of the common themed grade-level experiences.

9. Serving as liaison between schools participating in themed experiences and community organizations.

10. Plans, coordinates, and assists with theme week outreach programs and various special events (e.g. Aviation Day, Earth Day, etc.) including event set up, marketing and communication pieces, registration, food and beverage, and on-site services. Writes and edits materials, maintains assigned websites, and collaborates with the department and external partners on program and event planning.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Preferred Education & Field of Study
Preferred field of study in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics or related field.

Preferred Type of Experience
Progressively responsible experience in community-building, education, and/or program and event coordination.

Facilitation/instruction experience in teaching K-12 or post-secondary education or commensurate experience.

Experience in event planning, management, budgeting, execution and evaluation (may include event and/or sponsors fundraising.)

Volunteer and event coordination experience.

Experience with diverse populations.

Working Conditions

General Working Conditions
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment and within the community staffed by professional and student staff members. The individual in this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, die cut machines, laminators, and fax machines. Some position responsibilities require tasks outside of the office, in either a classroom setting, programming venue, or outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 25 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
