Position Summary:
The Accounting Manager position supports both the GL and commissions accounting. Supporting the accounting team with the month end close process, journal entries reviews and approval, balance sheet reconciliations, research/maintenance/oversight of the assigned areas of accounting, and providing explanations for significant fluctuations is required. This position assists with the annual and quarterly external and internal audits, ad hoc reports, and projects. This position will have the direct reports to manage, coach and develop.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and train the accounting team
- Perform general ledger account analysis and provide explanations for significant fluctuations
- Support internal and external quarterly and year end audit requests
- Develop complex ad hoc reports and financial analyses
- Identify opportunities for process and/or system improvements
- Support the accounting team and provide guidance and/or assistance to ensure a timely and accurate month end close process
- Research, maintenance, and manage the assigned areas of accounting
- Review and approve general ledger journal entries and reconciliations
- Ensures all deadlines are met on a timely manner
- Works alongside department heads and analysts to provide reports to upper management
- Other ad-hoc accounting duties
- Provides assistance to other coworkers as need
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required
- Certified Public Accountant license required
- 6+ years general ledger/corporate accounting/public accounting required
- 1+ year of experience managing an Accounting team is required
- Big 4 or publicly-traded company experience a plus
- General Ledger Accounting experience, with a strong working knowledge of GAAP and accounting concepts
- Demonstrable proficiency with Microsoft Office applications with the Intermediate ability in Excel (macros, pivot tables, x-lookup, etc.)
- Ability to maintain exacting attention to detail in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Effective written/verbal/listening communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal daily direction to meet objectives and as part of a team on larger initiatives/assignments
- Excellent leadership skills
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization
