The 2nd Assistant Superintendent is responsible for staff training, management, and safety; pesticide/fertilizer application and record keeping; golf course maintenance, and leading by example. The 2nd Assistant must be self-sufficient and be able to diagnose problems and fix them as they arise.

Requirements:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a MN Pesticide Applicator License by May 1, 2023.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Strong golf course work history with an emphasis on pesticide and fertilizer application and staff supervision.
  • Desire to perform work at a high level with minimal supervision

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 2 or 4-year degree from a formal turf grass management program.
  • 2 years of experience in a leadership role at a golf course.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Staff Training, Management, and Safety: Aid in the training of proper mowing techniques, operation of equipment, and conduct around golfers; Lead and advise small crews during various course projects; effectively lead the staff in the absence of the Superintendent and Lead Assistant.
  • Pesticide/Fertilizer Application, Management, and Records: Must be able to apply pesticides and fertilizers proficiently; maintain an organized and accurate spray and fertilizer record book; have an understanding of fertilizer and pesticide rate mathematics; must be able to wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Audubon International: Sustainability committee staff representative; continue EIQ practices - providing excellent turf quality with minimal environmental impact; research safer practices and pesticides for applications.
  • Club Grounds: Assist managing the club grounds (golf course, tennis courts, winter sports); inspect daily or as needed seasonally.
  • Winter Responsibilities: Effectively maintain roadways during snow/sleet events (plowing, salting, sanding, shoveling); Oversee Barn facilities - event set up, building repairs, and parking lot maintenance; paddle tennis court operations; management of ice rinks; maintain cross country ski trails, tree care; assist with equipment maintenance.
  • Membership Obligations: Attend building and grounds meetings when asked; be accommodating to member needs and requests; attend standards of maintenance meetings when asked.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and climbing stairs, and step stool.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Walking and/or standing to extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder to 12 feet.
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Work Environment:

  • Exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
  • Able to work in variable weather conditions in all seasons.
  • Noise level can be high at times.
  • Tight spaces.
  • Uneven surfaces.
