Position Summary
The Facility Monitor at the Santa Fe Springs TLC is a supportive service-client aide for 24 homeless single women and 28 families, woman and their children, is a “front line” staff member. Functions include providing security for the facility, enforcing the program rules and regulations, as well as providing support and encouragement to the residents. The Client Ambassador works and supports the Program Case Managers.
Essential Functions
1. Support the stated mission of The Salvation Army and the Transitional Living Center in word and deed.
2. Monitor and supervise the entrance and exit of all persons at the Whittier Hospitality House.
3. Make timely rounds of the facility to ensure that residents are safe and protected.
4. Enforce the LAHSA program rules and regulations.
5. Fulfill basic housekeeping duties and assignments as directed.
6. Provide crisis intervention support as needed.
7. Maintain a helpful and friendly attitude toward residents.
8. Provide support and encouragement to residents.
9. Ensure that all Facility Monitor paperwork and records are accurate and up to date.
10. Attend staff meetings and trainings when assigned.
11. Acts according to all emergency policies.
12. Supports the goals and directives of the Program Team.
13. Follows through with all legal obligations (e.g. Child abuse reporting, accident reports, etc.)
14. Documents all resident and facility issues, incidents and/or concerns for Program Team review
15. Answers facility phone, screening, making appropriate referrals and/or taking messages when necessary.
16. Provide orientation of House Rules and program structure to new incoming residents.
17. Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High School Graduate or equivalent.
2. 6 Months experience (or equivalent) working with homelessness, positive reinforcement principles, social work, etc.
3. Must obtain and maintain current CPR and First Aid certification.
4. Must receive T.B. testing annually.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, supervisor, residents, outside vendors, police, other social service providers, etc.
6. Must be able to set limits and maintain professional boundaries at all times.
7. Must maintain a non-judgmental attitude in working with residents.
8. Must remain calm and follow protocol in all situations.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. Driving Test and clean MVR
2. If working in vicinity of children a criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
